The hip is a large ball and socket joint made up of the pelvis (socket) and the head of the femur (ball). Ligaments and muscles around the hip ensure stability of the hip whilst allowing a large range of movement of the leg.
Common causes of hip and groin pain include:
- Osteoarthritis
- Adductor tendinopathy
- Femoroacetabular impingement (FAI)
- Synovitis
- Labral tears
- Trochanteric bursitis/gluteus medius tendinopathy
- Stress fractures of the femoral neck
